What is the application of AutoCAD in the automation industry?
AutoCAD sole purpose was/is/will be to create drawings that can be used by the shop floor people. And as long as fabrication and manufacturing exist, AutoCAD will have its purpose. Only a few complex parts are fabricated through step file or stl file (3D printings). Most of the parts will be fabricated through conventional processes like lathe, milling etc,. Even if the original drawing was prepared in 3D software like CATIA/NX/Creo/Solidworks, the supplier will be given in .pdf, .stl, .DXF formats. For editing DXF, the most convenient tool is AutoCAD.
